book/marked was a promenade dance theater piece for a small audience in a large theater, created and performed by an eight-person ensemble. Working with found and original text, we crafted a journey that took the audience from their seats onto the stage, following a reader losing herself amongst fragments of stories, textbooks, treatises, and poems.
This journey was built around and underscored by the music of Burt Bacharach and the Beach Boys. We explored the tension between sentimentality and the sublime, seeking the line where a song or an image could transcend nostalgia and register as simply beautiful.
This was a young and messy thing.
book/marked was created as part of an Honors Project in Theater at Williams College.
